The grounds were nice. LIked the alpacas and sheep.
They could do with having some seating around the grounds so you can stop and take in the view.
Good l;ocation, enjoyed the walks around the hotel, nice atmosphere in bar and restaurant. We had an enjoyable meal on Sunday evening.
Very relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of staff. Secluded location but close enough to Peebles. Room was clean and food good. Overall a good stay.
Staff exceptionally helpful. Late breakfasts (serving until 11a.M.) were well received. Pool, although a little small, very clean. Grounds extensive and very well tended. Although entitled a castle, and exterior conveys this, when inside this is not apparent hotel provides bikes(and helmets) for patrons'use -free if looking for a quiet, away from it all break, this hotel is ideal happy to recommend it
Only one lounge which was also the bar area, waiting area for dining room and informal area for bar meals - a second lounge space would be desirable
Hotel was very good for a 3*.Breakfast was excellent and good value at £7. 50 pp . Dinner was mediocre and expensive £25.00 pp, if your hungry don't eat there and their chips were pathetic. The Horse Shoe Inn is only a short walk away about the same price but much better. Peebles about 10 mins drive has lots of pubs and restaurants to cater for all pockets and tastes .Hotel is lovely and is busy as a wedding venue. I'd go back but I wouldn't have dinner.
Staff were so friendly. Fantastic value and a great setting
The hotel was nicely located in the countryside and looked imposing although I was taken aback by the large number of vehicles that were there (see below). The staff were adequate without being overly friendly, there was, however, no-one at the door to help with bags. The food in the restaurant was good, and here the staff were young, willing and very friendly - although the restaurant itself was rather gloomy. Free tea and coffee in an outside conservatory was good.
My wife and I had been to many hotels and this one just 'lacked something' for it is billed as upmarket, but it is not. It doesn't just share with the Scottish Ambulance Service, it is full of the sas! It was like being in a fraternity house all over again with people in uniforms dashing about to training rooms of one sort or other. The room was adequate (breakfast was not included - not even a continental breakfast), bathroom accoutrements were minimal (the shower was good), there was no toilet brush, the floors and doors creaked, both inside and outside the room.
Staff were excellent and made us very welcome .Great value
Doors to bedroom very loud was woke up alot during the night . Two dirty bathroom towels were in the hall near the lift for the duration of our stay . Pool very cold
our stay was very enjoyable and we liked the look of the hotel. the reception area was very nice as was the restaurant.
i wasnt so keen on the room we were allocated. having stayed in other de vere venues, this one seemed alot smaller and small things like the hairdryer, iron etc were not as good.
Warm welcome at reception and staff were frtiendly . Better than a lot of 4 star hotels . Rooms fresh and spacious. Would stay again
Understaffed at bar . Noise insulation poor
Spa and pool were great, but there was no one watching over you. The dinner was nice. The Staff were great as we are a gay couple and were nice with us. Worth the money hotel
No one was watching over you in pool and suna. Breakfast was not worth the money - the dinner was The gardens were not well kept plants wise The room was not 100% Clean - the Radiator was dirty and so was pictures etc.
Room was good value for money, clean and comfortable. Exterior of hotel great.interior a shock
Did not like the characterless nature of communal facilities, prefered to eat elsewhere in the evening because of this. Communal seating very low and uncomfortable. No ambiance ,needs to reflect the fact your in scotland ,a touch of tartan on the staff uniforms, boutique hotel style done on a very small budget has had its day - brighten up the communal areas, put some comfortable seating in the communal areas, sack your interior designer( if you had one) needs some art on those drab walls. You need to think about what people would expect to see inside and its not that ! did not enjoy dragging my suitcase to the top floor no lift--bad back= harrowing experience did not know the room was situated in such a difficult to access room
Great value for money as I had a reduced rate for both nights stay. Beautiful grounds and very peaceful setting. Very helpful and professional staff and service to a high standard. A great choice of ingredients at the 'help yourself' breakfast, particularly the porridge!
The hotel has grounds for being a quality 5 star hotel if a complete makeover was made on the bedrooms. I found these very dated with old 70's type furniture along with very basic and shoddy bathroom fittings. This was in complete contrast to the downstairs plush bar and dining facilities.
The price, friendly staff and good breakfast
Ist room was noisy due to spa jacuzzi but we were moved very easily
Barony Castle was set in a lovely location. Staff very helpful and friendly. The pool etc, clean, warm and inviting. It was a peaceful place to stay.
